History
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office was founded in 1870, shortly after the creation of Sedgwick County. The first sheriff, William H. Kennedy, was appointed by Governor James M. Harvey. The office was initially responsible for law enforcement in the entire county, including the city of Wichita.
